Where does the time go?????

It has been forever since I have been on here.......shame on me. I have been crazy busy, which is a great thing:) I survived Halloween...36 costumes. Then managed to design a winter and Christmas wardrobe.....

Winter/Christmas Shoot

I had an amazing group of models for this shoot. I had a lot of first time models which did an amazing job!!! I hope they will continue to model with me in the future. A very special thanks to Sara Collins (Nolan's mom) for arranging my shoot at an amazing farm in Landrum. The name of the farm was Clear View; check out their website.

Meet the Models

Alivia

Alivia is my beautiful niece who has been modeling with me since she was about a year old. I dedicate all my clothing and inspiration to her. She is my little Doodlebug!!! Nolan

This was Nolan's first time modeling with DSL Kids and he did an amazing job. I met Nolan and his mom Sara during the cutest kid contest I hosted with Parkkenon Photography back in the summer. Nolan is one of the most precious little boys I have ever met!!! Nolan is going to be a Big Brother soon too...how exciting...A very special thanks to Sara for getting permission for us to shoot at Clear View Farms and congrats to Nolan and his parents on their soon to be new addition to the family!!!

Ashlyn

This was Ashlyn's first modeling experience with DSL Kids too. She did an amazing job. As you can see from my blog...she too isn't new to DSL Kids. She also participated in the cutest kids contest the past summer. She is the daughter of Michelle who works with my husband at Nuvox. Ashlyn is a great little model, who loves dogs...as you will see from the wardrobe pictures. Ashlyn is a beautiful little girl and I am super excited to have her modeling with me now.

Hunter

Hunter is very new to DSL Kids. I met her mother Courtney through a little league football team that my husband was coaching. Hunter is such a precious little girl. She is beautiful. She did an amazing job and absolutely loved to wear the Santa Hat:) Hunter celebrated her birthday the Saturday after our shoot...A Very Happy Birthday to Hunter!!!!

Taylor

This was also Taylor's first modeling experience with DSL Kids. I met Taylor and her mom Cherie through my photographer Monica. Taylor's birthday pictures were amazing and I ask her mom to let her join my Winter shoot. I am so glad that she did. Taylor is a precious little girl with the most beautiful hair and eyes I have ever seen. I hope that Taylor will shoot with us again in the future.

Jayce

Jayce is the daughter of a girl I used to go to school with. She is a beautiful little girl with a fun personality. Jayce loved the horse at Clear View Farm as was quite sure it was talking to her during the photo shoot. Jayce did a great job...she is precious:)

A very special thanks to all of my models and their parents. Without them, I would just have clothes!!! Also another thanks to my photographer Monica...she rocks!!!!

Where does the time go?.....

Is your little one growing to fast? Seems like everyday another milestone moment is passing by.

They were just sitting up, now they are rolling over, standing, or even walking. Before you know it all those moments are past........

New Additions to DSL Kids....

This has been an exciting week for DSL Kids!!

Let's see....our first blog award; Clothing and accessories picked up by two retail stores; and planning for another Cutest Kid Contest with Parkkenon Photography!!! Wow what a week!!!

Above are the new additions that will be in the DSL Store starting by the end of this month. DSL has always carried mainly boutique style children's clothing and hairbows, but I always had accessories and shower gifts for my shows. After many request.....DSL Kids is going to start carrying accessories and shower gifts in our online store!!!

I am so grateful for the way business is picking up and expanding. Many thanks to my blogging friends for spreading the word as well!!!

Country Boy!!! This is a light blue and white striped seersucker material Jon-Jon with an appliqued tractor. The outfit is also personalized with your little ones name. This outfit is sure to make your "country boy" the talk of the town.

Strawberry Chocolate Version 3!! This outfit combines a full top with a ruffled jean. This outfit is perfect for dress or play. New DSL Summer Clothing Line

I was trying to think of a fun way introduce my new summer clothes instead of listing them all at once. The result is 5 a day......I am going to feature 5 new outfits a day until all the new line has been featured. Stay tuned to see them all.

Carnival Bloom

This is one of my top three favorites for the summer line. The top is a ruffled top that can double as a dress. It also comes with a straight legged pant. The primary cloth for this outfit is Michael Millers brown Carnival Bloom. This outfit is perfect for dress or play.

Minnie Mouse Version 2

This is one of my other favorites from the summer line. This outfit is perfect for your little one for dress or play. Taking a trip to Disney? This outfit would be perfect. The top is a ruffled top that can double as a dress or be worn with the pants. This outfit also comes with a straight legged pant. One of my favorite parts of this outift is the Minnie Mouse topper bow!! I love it!!!

Checks and Dots

This outfit combines a aqua gingham check with a lime green and white polka dot. The top is a straight short top with ribbon straps and a ribbon trim around the bottom of the shirt. The pant is a staight legged pant with a ruffled bottom that is trimmed in the same lime green and white polka dotted ribbon that is on the top. Very fun stylish outfit.

Under the Sea

This is another one of my favorites for the summer. The outfit is a A-line style top with a staight legged capri. The outfit is a light pink and white stripped seersucker material. The bottom of the top and the capris are trimmed with rick rack. The mermaid and fish on the top are removeable for easy care. The outfit can be worn with the mermaid or just as a monogrammed top. The bows on the legs of the capris are removeable as well. This outfit is perfect for a beach vacation!!!

A Day at the Beach

This outfit is perfect for the beach!! It is a light purple with a purple and white striped ruffle on the pant. The top has a bucket and shovel and flip-flops. The top is a swing style top and the pant is a wide-legged ruffled pant.

Wow what a turn out.....We had an amazing turn out for the voting. We had an amazing 1357 votes. Not only did we receive an amazing amount of votes; we also received votes from all over the United States and even overseas!!!

The top Three for The Cutest Kid Contest

1st Place........ The winner with 379 votes is Alivia. Alivia received votes from all over the world with votes coming in from Canada, Mexico, Britain, and the Philippines. How amazing!!! Alivia is a very special little girl, who loves to have her picture taken. The True Meaning of Christmas.............

Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of the season, we forget the true meaning of Christmas. So many times we look at Christmas as a time to receive when we should look at it as a time to give. Just as God gave us the most wonderful gift of all, his son Jesus.

But from the time we are very small we think of Christmas as a time to get all the things we want. I remember as a child planning exactly what I wanted to ask Santa for. You know the list had to be perfect; as you only had one shot to get what you wanted. Then Christmas morning I would wake up with much anticipation (most of the time awoken by my little sister, who I swear didn't sleep at all Christmas Eve night:) as I just knew Santa had brought me all the things on my list. It wasn't until I was much older that I realized that wasn't how it worked for many children around the world. But not only children around the world, but children in our own neighborhood. Many children wake up to nothing or very little on Christmas. Some children don't know what it is like to even have presents under their tree.

For the past few years my mom and dad have started a place for under privileged children in Enoree, SC. My sister and I along with our husbands have the privilege of helping out with these amazing children. Kidztation offers these children a safe place to go on Friday nights, but most of all a place where they can learn that there is someone who loves and cares about them. Sometimes I think these children teach me more than I teach them. The real life lessons that I didn't know existed until much later in life are these kids reality.

This Christmas is Kidztations third year of giving Christmas to these amazing children. We started with about 15 our first Christmas; and this year we gave Christmas to over 53 children. Thanks to the help of some wonderful volunteers of both their time and money:)

While collecting the trash, I came to this little girl. The most precious child you will ever meet. I was going to take her paper, and she asked me if she could have it. Of course, I said OK without thinking much about it. It wasn't until I came back by her that I realized she had saved the tape as she opened the presents and was wrapping them back up. Not sure what she was doing, I explained to her that the presents were hers' that she could take them with her. She simply responded, "I am wrapping them back up, so we have presents under our tree.". It was this moment that impacted my life for ever.

The joy of a child is unspeakable. I would like to think that these children will remember this Christmas for the rest of their lives. But even if they grow up and forget, I will never forget the look on these children's faces as they opened their gifts. It was as if we had gotten them everything on their Christmas list. I am so grateful to have been a part of bring Christmas to children who otherwise might not have had a Christmas.

A Birthday Outfit for Kyleigh.............

A Miracle Baby Turns 4

Kyleigh Alexis Pace

Kyleigh like most little girls loves Hannah Montana. She is quit sure that she wants to be just like her when she gets bigger:) Getting bigger in itself is a miracle for Kyleigh. See Kyleigh was born 3 months early and only weighed a little over 2lbs. She would fit in the palm of your hand. Kyleigh's first crib was in the PICU where she stayed for almost 3 months. Four years later, Kyleigh is a perfectly healthy little girl who suffered none of the side effects they originally predicted from being born early.

Kyleigh had her 4th b-day party at Pump It Up in Greenville where she was treated as a princess. Kyleigh's birthday was celebrated in true Hannah Montana style:)

Kyleigh's b-day outfit consisted of a long-sleeve white shirt with an appliqued present with red with white polka dot cloth. To Kyleigh's specifications her shirt red Birthday Girl in light blue. The bottom of the shirt was decorated with lime green rick rack. The pant was a wide legged pant made of red and white polka dotted light weight material.

Kyleigh had a wonderful birthday, and DSL Kids was very grateful to be a part of that day. Kyleigh is a very special little girl and we wish her all the happiness in the world:) May Kyleigh always be a Rock Star!!!

This past Sunday, we had our winter photo shoot!! I was so very excited to finally have pictures of all the new things DSL has to offer. Let me start by first taking the time to introduce you to the two new models:) I am so very happy to have them and hope that they had a blast:) The little one is Kylan and the other little blonde is Kyleigh his big sister. They are the children of my cousin Misty and her husband Shawn Petras. I feel certain that Kyleigh had a blast, as she loved putting on all of the clothes.

All the little ones did great!!! They never cease to amaze me. I am very fortunate to have extremely well behaved models:)

DSL's First Halloween

Halloween 2008 was DSL's fist Halloween of making costumes. I would like to first take the time to thank my many customers that helped to make DSL's 1st Halloween a great success. I am honored that you allowed me to take a small part in your child's Halloween.

Halloween represents to me one of the few Holiday's when kids are allowed to be kids. A day when they can truly be anything they imagine. I am sure my Alivia is like so many other children in that she wishes Halloween was everyday. She loves to play dress-up and would wear it everywhere we went were she allowed to do so. .

The imagination of a child is facinating to me. I am so honored to have been able to play a small part in bring so many children's imaginations to life this Halloween.......................

My Little Minnie Mouse "Alivia"

Alivia had an advantage, I guess, in that she was able to dress-up consistenly for five weeks for Halloween. She wore a different one of my costumes to dance every week the entire month of October:) But when it came time to decided what she wanted to be for Halloween, Minnie Mouse won hands down. She loved every minute of being Minnie Mouse, especially getting her face painted:)

Kyleigh is one of my little models who came by to trick-o-treat on Halloween. Kyleigh made the cutest little witch with her dark hair and eyes. Kyleigh's mom actually got two costumes from me. One was a spider, which was beautiful, but Kyleigh had different plans. After wearing all the costumes for the photoshoot she was dead set on being a witch. As you can see from the picture above, Kyleigh won:)

Emily is another one of DSL's models. She already had a Halloween costume, but after our costume photoshoot she decided she liked those wings:) Emily is the daughter of Michelle Patton of the Dotted Deer Boutique (http://www.dotteddeerboutique.etsy.com/) and Patton Photography (http://pattonphotography.shutterfly.com/ ). Michelle makes beautiful jewelry and photos. She is the photographer of DSL Kids and we love her and our sweet little model:) Emily made a beautiful Bumble Bee!!!

What a wonderful idea... These little ones' mom had a custom request of these outfits for her daughters. The youngest was the devil and the oldest was the angel. However, they both look like beautiful little angels to me:) Our Little Angel and Devil went trick-o-treating at Kentucky Horse Park where the entered a joint Halloween contest and won 1st place. Congradulations to them on their win!!!

Katie made a beautiful little Minnie Mouse:) Katie's mom Lauren shared a story with me from the night Katie received her costume and I wanted to share it with all of you. Below is the message I received from Lauren........

Chrissy,

I just wanted to let you know how much I LOOOOVE this costume. I got home last night with such anticipation. The result was that I was even more impressed with the Minnie costume than I thought I would be. My daughter is in a phase of loving all things Disney, and I didn't want to go with the regular Minnis costumes from the stores because I knew they wouldn't fit so well. So, I was excited to find your listing (via searching Minnie Mouse =) Anyway, the tutu is so nice and full and wasn't wrinkled one bit from shipping.I asked my daughter is she wanted to try it on (mind you, she will be 2 next month), and I wasn't sure if she would go for it. I put the tutu on over her outfit, put the ears on and told her to look in the mirror... She squealed with a little MINNIE!!!!! And asked for me to play some Disney Music (an old cd I had that she recenly discovered) and said Dance. She 'danced' around our house for about an hour last night and didn't want to take it off. I had to hide the costume after she went to bed for fear of her wanting to wear it every day before Halloween!!!Thanks again! You really made our Halloween!!! I will try and send a pic from Halloween once the day comes!

I am so glad that Lauren shared her story with me. I have shared this story with everyone. I am so honored to have been able to share in bring Katie's imagination of being Minnie to life. Oh, to be a kid again and find joy in the small things in life. To have the ability to dance like no one is watching in your Minnie Mouse costume. I hope that Katie continues to enjoy her Minnie Mouse costume, and even more than that may she always keep that childlike imagination and excitement and always dance like no one is watching.

My smallest Little Minnie

I met this litle Minnie's mom at a craft festival in Penndleton. She was my smallest little Minnie at 6 months old. She loved the ears once we put them on her, and didn't want to take them off:) Thanks for letting DSL share in your little one's first Halloween.

Lula the ladybug took DSL all the way to England this Halloween. We had some complications with customs, but Lula finally got her Ladybug just in time for Halloween. Lula you made a beautiful Ladybug:)

What a beautiful little ladybug!!! If she is anything like Alivia, she didn't want to take her face paint off. Who can blame them though...the one time a year where they don't get in trouble for marking on themselves:) Her mom said that she loved her ladybug costume. I am so glad that she liked it:)

Maggie made a beautiful Minnie Mouse with her long dark hair. From the looks of the picture Maggie is alot like my Alivia, in that she doesn't mind posing for the camera!!

She is also Alivia's friend and one of my newest models:) Emily recently started a mommy and me dance class with a former student of Miss Marion in Spartanburg. As you will see from the pictures Emily is a natural at dance!!!

Although Emily is new to our modeling team, she is a familar face to DSL Kids. She was introduced to DSL Kids when her mom bought her a Birthday Outfit in August. Since then she and Alivia have become quit good friends, which we are very grateful for.

A Birthday Outfit fit for a Princess.......................

My Lil' Princess Turns 3

Alivia turned 3 on August 24th, and had her party at Pump It Up in Greenville. It seems like only yesterday she was born, and now she's three. No longer a baby, she's a little girl. She's the first to tell you she's bigger (with her little hands stretched as far as they will go in the air).

Alivia is quit sure that she is a Princess:) I am very sure that I had nothing to do with that at all:) So with that being said, we had to party Princess Style. Of course she had to have a birthday outfit, "Lil' Cupcake". Alivia came up with that all by herself!! And as I am sure you could guess that when ask what kind of cake she wanted her response was "duh a castle" (I get that duh from my bubby). Like really Aunt Chrissy what are you thinking. Of course she has to have a castle, she a princess right:) So off Aunt Chrissy and Alivia go to Michaels to find a castle cake........

Once at Michaels and we found the stuff to make the castle cake, we had to decide on a color. Alivia was quit sure that since Cinderella's dress was blue her castle was blue as well. Makes sense to me, so blue it is. She didn't get to see the finished cake until she walked into the room at Pump It Up and there it was all put together. You would have thought I had given her the moon!! She was so excited and responded to Cinderella at the door by saying I told you she'd like a blue castle:) No amount of money could make me feel as good as I did when she saw her castle all put together. I'd stay up to 4 in the morning all over again!!

The top is pink with white polka dots with a black background fabric with cupcakes all over it and a blue pant. The top is long enough that it can be worn as a dress and a undershirt can be added for cooler weather. Pretty enough for a Princess but yet functional enough for a hard day of play:) Back and side view

So all and all I would say Alivia had a wonderful birthday. She played until her little heart was content and then got way more toys than one child needs. This was really the first year she really got into the birthday thing, and now she is quit sure that she should get to do that again:)

Nivens Apple Farm

Playdate Anyone?!?

The above picture is of Emily and Alivia in the playhouse at Niven's Apple Farm. Emily is the daughter of Michelle Patton from Dotted Deer Boutique (http://www.dotteddeerboutique.etsy.com/). Michelle and I met through Etsy and as shown in an earlier post "A Birthday Outfit for Emily". Friday was the first of hopefully many playdates for Alivia and Emily. You would have never known that Emily and Alivia had never officially met until that day. They played like they had known each other forever:) As you will see from the pictures below, they had a wonderful time following each other around, running, playing, looking at the animals, and just being girls. When I say being girls, I mean being girls:) It had been raining the night before, but we decided to let them play anyway. While they had a wonderful time and didn't let it slow them down for one minute, once we got to the car to go to lunch they were both wanting the dirt off of them. Typical ribbons and bows girls:) Of course Michelle and I had nothing to do with that all at, did we Michelle?

Emily watching Alivia. It was amazing how well they took to each other. You would have thought they had known each other forever. Of course, Emily wasn't quit sure of all Alivia's energy to start with:)

You got to love those blue eyes and curls. The camera definatly loves Emily, and she's not to shy of it either!! Emily is going to be one of my new models. I am so excited. She is going to start helping with my winter wardrobe.

The girls are quit sure that this is their new favorite thing to do. Alivia loves to jump and Michelle said that Emily had been trying to jump on the bed, so this was perfect for both of them. They jumped their little hearts out and their laughter echoed through the air. To me there is nothing better than the sound of a child having fun!!!

Two other great things happened on Friday as well. I was able to get my custom jewelry from Michelle. Which by the way is amazing. I couldn't pick a favorite if I had to. Michelle is very talented jewelry maker. You should definatly check out her shop on etsy. Not only is Michelle a talented jewelry maker, she is also an amazing photographer as you can see from the pictures above. So Alivia found a new friend and I found a new photographer (of course Michelle and I were already friends)!!!

Alivia and I had a great time Friday and we hope to do it again very soon. Stay tuned for my winter wardrobe Michelle is going to start taking the pictures a week from Monday!!!!

Meet the Fall Models

Pyper

Pyper is the neice of the lady who took my photos. She is a precious little girl who wasn't so sure she liked the modeling thing:) I have never seen a child that takes pictures like her. She says cheese from the time she gets the outfit on. She is used to being the subject of photos as her Aunt Sheena is the photographer and takes her picture queit frequently!!!

The one and only Alivia....She is my heart!!! She knows the drill and practices her smile and poses the entire morning before we go to have the pictures taken. Of all the Halloween costumes, she was pretty sure that she liked Minnie Mouse the best. I guess she takes after her Aunt Chrissy who loves Mickey Mouse!!!

Brayden is a model from my first photo shoot. He is precious. He was sick on this day, so we didn't think we would have a great experience. Boy did he show us....He did great. He is a ham and loves to have his picture taken. This is one of my favorite Fall outfit pairs as it can be worn for Thanksgiving and Halloween. It also has a corresponding outfit for little boys and girls that alow you do dress them alike, but yet different.

Flower Power is a great outfit in that it can be worn year round. The colors are great for summer and fall. In the summer it can be worn sleeveless and for cooler weather you just add a shirt. This Michael Bloom Carnival Bloom cloth is one of my favorite.

Brayden

Brayden was quit found of the spider on his outfit. He kept pointing to it. I love this outfit too. It is a perfect little boy outfit, since they love bugs. It is perfect for Halloween too.

I am currently finishing up my Winter Wardrobe. Hopefully they will be finished within in the next couple of weeks. I was hoping to have them all done at the same time, but due to some family circumstances things got put on hold for a few days. So I am a little behind on my winter clothes. I say behind, but when I tell people I am working on Winter clothes they tend to say that it's not even Fall yet.

Emma's red and black outfit is perfect for any occasion, but especially for cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs. Emma's outfit is very versatile as it can be worn sleeveless (as pictured), or with a shirt. The top is also long enough to be worn as a short dress. The style of this outfit is good for two years of wear in most cases. The first year as pants and the second year as capris.

Meet the Models

The children did amazing. I was really surprised. I had figured it would be awful because I knew there were a lot of outfits to be shot. The girls thought they were playing dress-up. It did however take us a really long time. Our shoot started at 11:00 A.M and we were not finished until 2:30, so it was a long day. However, when we were finished the girls were disappointed. They did a wonderful job, and so did the lady taking the pictures. I highly recommend Portriat Innovations in Greenville. Jennifer is amazing!!

Joanna was the daughter of a friend of the lady who took my photos. She had never meet me or any of the other girls. She did amazing. You would have thought she had known us her whole life.

Blair is my cousins little girl. She is a rather shy little girl, so I didn't expect her to like having her picture taken. As you can see in the picture she is a mess. She laughed the whole time.

Brayden in my cousins little boy. He also stayed with "Nanny Chrissy" for about a month while his mom went back to work. He is the most loving child. I just want to pinch his cheeks. He was the youngest model, and he did amazing. He cried when we were finished with him. He wanted to stay.

Kyleigh is my other cousin's little girl. She is a mess. She loves to dance, so catching a picture when she wasn't trying to dance around was a challenge. She was the oldest model and definatly the one with the most energy. Kyleigh was a premature and she and her family are greatly involved with the March of Dimes. You would never know she was a preemie now.

Alivia is my neice and the inspiration for all of my work. She is a very vibrant little girl who loves to dance. She stays with "Nanny Chrissy" during the school year while my sister works. She is very much an Aunt Chrissy's little girl. From being with me all the time and my obsession with pictures, she loves to have her picture made. She loved the photo shoot and asked when we were going back when we got in the car. She is my heart!!!

My Blue Eyes Princess

Alivia is the inspiration for all of my work. Alivia is my 2 year-old neice. I do not have children of my own, but love to spoil my sisters. After becomming suddenly ill in April of 2005, I suddenly needed to find something to do with all the time I had on my hands. I started out by making Alivia hairbows. She has a hairbow to match anything and everything you can think of. Shortly after starting to make the bows, I discovered that I loved to sew. So I started designing and making clothing for Alivia. My sister is a teacher, so when she would take Alivia to school functions the other teachers would ask where she got her outfits. After many request to start selling my clothing, I finally decided to give it a try; thus creating Dottie Stripe Layne. The name Dottie Stripe Layne came from my love of combining polka dots and stripes. The Layne part is named after Alivia. As with everything in my life, I give all the credit to God. Not only did God give me the ability to sew, He also gave me a second chance at life. With this chance I intend to do what I love and that is to design and make childrens clothing.
